South Burnett Winery Guided Cycle Trip highlights

  • Experience the ease of having a guide cycling with you each day and a back up support vehicle
  • Cycle on a mixture of a dedicated cycle path through the South Burnett region and quiet country roads
  • Meet the locals in the towns and villages you pass through
  • Sample the local wines of the Moffatdale region
  • Visit the Toogoolah Condensery

This four day guided cycle tour shows you the best of the South Burnett region. The South Burnett is home to a burgeoning wine region, a new rail trail, and a hinterland full of country hospitality.

The South Burnett Rail Trail is a premium cycle route following a paved trail from Kingaroy to Murgon. The Rail Trail itself is a 42km cycle passing through quaint villages and fertile farmland. We’ll spend one day on the rail trail, before continuing cycling to Moffatdale. Then we’ll spend two nights in the Moffatdale Wine Region, with time to enjoy cycling through the vineyards and tasting the wines that make this region truly memorable.

The cycle tour starts with a transfer from Brisbane, and once your guides have picked you up they will show you the best the region has to offer. Along with some fantastic cycling, the group will also visit many of the region’s art galleries and museums, and of course, the great food options along the way.

With all your logistics taken care of including transfers, bike hire, luggage transfers and accommodation, all you need to do is enjoy the cycling each day and take in everything the area has to offer as you travel through the South Burnett Rail Trail and the Moffatdale Wine Region by bike. You’ll have both a guide cycling alongside you and a backup support van in the area, so you can truly relax and enjoy the experience.

Itinerary

This morning you will be met by your guides in Brisbane for the drive to Kingaroy. We’ll stop for morning tea at Toogoolawah Condensery and its art gallery. The gallery is home to dynamic and vibrant contemporary art exhibitions, artist projects and performances by regional and national artists. After enjoying the gallery we’ll continue on to our next stop - the Heritage Centre in Yarraman. From there we continue on our scenic drive to Kingaroy. Here we will visit the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery before checking in to our accommodation for the night. Overnight: Kingaroy.

Meals:  Nil

The South Burnett Rail Trail starts right in the middle of town at the old train station, conveniently located close to your hotel. There are some long stretches of trail along this section with sweeping views across broad horizons. Today you’ll cycle through fertile farming areas with deep red soil. We'll stop in Wondai for lunch. Wondai is the largest town on the trail and is a quintessential inland Queensland town with a couple of grand Queensland style wooden hotels with huge balconies. After lunch we continue on our way towards the end of the rail trail in Murgon. From there you'll be transferred to Moffatdale where we'll be staying at Dusty Hill Vineyard. Overlooking the picturesque Lake Barambah, located just below the small village of Moffatdale, Dusty Hill Vineyard is one of the region's first established wineries. Overnight: Moffatdale.

Meals:  Nil

There is flexibility in the plan for today, however the objective is to explore the Moffatdale Wine Region. We'll start the day with at transfer back to Murgon, where we will begin our cycle to Moffatdale and the wineries. The cycle for today is around 35km taking in different wineries, but the bus is there as a back up should people prefer to be driven around. Either way way you’ll have plenty of time to visit the cellar doors, stop by a gin distillery, sample and purchase some great local produce, and stop for lunch. And with an impressive range of wine varieties including Shiraz, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot and Verdelho (to name a few) there is bound to be a wine or two to suit your palate. Overnight: Moffatdale.

Meals:  Nil

This morning we'll start the drive back to Brisbane, but not before we stop in at the Goomeri Bakery for an excellent coffee and a sweet treat. The transfer back to Brisbane will be via Gympie. We'll drop you back at your hotel in Brisbane or at the airport.

Meals:  Nil
