Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to our most common questions
How fit do I need to be?
Our adventures are active holidays and can be undertaken by anyone with reasonable health and fitness. All of our trips are graded, allowing you to choose a suitable trip. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with our grading system and to speak with of our team members about the physical requirements of your trip.
What time of year do your tours operate?
Next to each trip we list the frequency in the operating months which the trip is offered. Please visit our trip pages on the website using the calendar for details.
What’s included in my tour?
Each of our itineraries has the tour inclusions listed on the trip pages. You can also view the trips notes for your chosen itinerary for the list of inclusions and optional extras available.
Am I able to modify your advertised cycle tours?
It's possible to modify the itinerary on some of our trips. Please let us know what your preferences are and we’ll be able to provide you with recommendations and prices.
Are your trips family friendly?
Some of our trips are perfect for families. Look for the family friendly icon on the trip pages to give you an indication. Families that play (cycle) together stay together! I'm travelling solo on a self-guided tour. Do I need to pay a single traveller surcharge or a single supplement?
Most of our self guided trips are priced based on twinshare. If you are travelling solo the single traveller surcharge will apply. The single supplement would apply if you were travelling in a party with others and you had chosen to book a single room. You would never pay a single traveller surcharge and a single supplement.
What is the accommodation like?
We work with a number of accommodation providers along the routes including family run motels, luxury heritage accommodation, lodges, cabins, farm stays and hotels. Some trips also offer the option to upgrade to a higher level of accommodation.providers along the routes including family run motels, luxury heritage accommodation, lodges, cabins, farm stays and hotels. A description of the levels of accommodation available is listed on each trip page.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes you can, but there are some things to consider. Will it be the right bike for the terrain? Has it been serviced recently? Do you have a repair kit, pump and spare tube to bring? Another consideration is how your bike will be transported from the end of the tour back to your start point if you are not on a circular route. We may be able to organise a bike transfer with the help of one of our local suppliers for an additional cost. Let us know your preferences and we will advise you of the options.
What back up and support do you provide?
Our self guided tours give you the freedom to explore at your own pace - but they're not unsupported. We provide a navigational app with all the information you need to successfully follow the route. Together with our local representatives, we are on hand in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. All we request is that you select a program that matches your level of fitness to ensure that you have a comfortable experience. We also require that you know how to change or repair a tube in the event of a puncture (repair kits are provided with the rental bikes).
What do I need to bring?
We will provide all our cycle participants with a detailed gear list of what we recommend you pack for your tour. This will be provided to you upon booking and may have some seasonal variations depending on the time of year you are travelling.
How do I book a trip?
There are four ways you can book your Australian Cycle Tours trip – online, over the phone, using a booking form and in person. Please click here for detailed information about each option and to download a booking form. We will confirm your booking and forward comprehensive trip departure booklets and other information to ensure that you are fully prepared for your adventure. Please note that although a deposit is required at the time of booking, this does not automatically confirm your position on the tour. You will be notified of the tour availability once we have received confirmation, at which time your booking form will be processed. The remaining balance is due by 70 days prior to trip departure. If the tour is not available and an alternative departure is not suitable, we will return your deposit in full.
What are your COVID-19 plans?
At Australian Cycle Tours, your safety is our first concern. Our specific protocols and safety analysis procedures, in conjunction with updates provided by our local partners and Government Travel warnings, allow us to carefully assess the stability of our trips throughout Australia and plan our operations accordingly. Our experienced staff frequently review all aspects of our adventures to ensure we are providing you with the best possible travel experience.
We have now introduced additional measures considering the COVID-19 pandemic. Naturally you’ll be social distancing while cycling, but while at your evening accommodation, we recommend you embrace your own personal measures of safely distancing with other patrons, wash your hands regularly and if you are feeling unwell, take steps to visit a local doctor and have yourself tested. The hoteliers used are also following recommended measures to mitigate the risks to you. We have also introduced a Stress Free Booking policy.
Stay safe, be kind and unite against the pandemic.
