Your Warm Welcome in South Wolumla

An ideal retreat to reflect on a great day of cycling!

After a day of challenging yet rewarding cycling, there's nothing better than being warmly welcomed into a charming, cosy retreat. In South Wolumla, cyclists are greeted by Jacqui and Peter of the Old School Bnb. In this article, Jacqui shares her home with you. South Wolumla is now a very small village consisting of a couple of houses and the remnants of the old butter factory that used to service the nine dairies that were once in the immediate area. The village is well off the main road and is really of no significance from a visitors point of view.

Our home has been built on to the one room South Wolumla school (circa 1867). The school averaged around 40 students of all primary school ages and on occasion up to 50 students. Peter and I built the house and restored the school ourselves. We actually did the work - not builders, and are often complimented on the attention to detail in both.

The things to love the most about the old school are its peaceful position within neighbouring beef and dairy farms, the view of the ridgeline from the dining room and verandah and the restoration of the school and sensitive building of the house in keeping with the age of the school. It's often referred to as stepping back in time.

The school is the main B&B room and always receives an immediate complimentary response on entering. It is light, bright and airy yet elegant and comfortable.

Anytime is a good time to visit - of course, summertime is the busiest for beach lovers but the cooler weather brings the benefit of having a cosy fire ready for our guest's arrival. Guests can relax on the verandah or wander through the garden.

Reading through our Guest Book our guests love 'feeling at home', find Peter and I welcoming and hospitable, the room luxurious, and love the beautiful period home, gardens and beautiful countryside. Dinner and breakfast always receive wonderful reviews.

It is about 20 minutes from the coast and beaches with a great whale museum in Eden. Jacqui and Peter are wonderful hosts providing delicious cordon bleu breakfasts and dinners. From our point of view, we love having visitors to our home and although there is a lot of work involved, we too get great joy from the experience.
