There is a lack of rail trails in NSW, especially when you consider neighbouring Victoria, home to the Great Victorian Rail Trail and the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, among others. That's why it brings us great pleasure to promote the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail in the Riverina region of NSW. It has been a job 18 years in the making, powered by hundreds of tireless volunteers. The trail is currently 21km long, which is half the length of a marathon (makes sense they're holding the inaugural Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail Marathon on 9 October 2021!).

 

 

The Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail was officially opened in April 2020 and has recently celebrated its first birthday with an impressive statistic: over 17,000 people have explored the rail trail in that first year, which is no mean feat considering the pandemic. It describes how much of a boon a rail trail can be for the local economy because of cycle touring. Naturally, Australian Cycle Tours proudly supports this cause.

 

 

Eventually, the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail will become part of the longer Riverina Highlands Rail Trail, which will extend for 132km to Wagga Wagga.
