Mudgee Explorer Bike Tour Review: A 'Front Page' Trip

Recently Sam Spencer and a group of fellow cyclists travelled to Mudgee on our Mudgee Explorer Self Guided Cycling tour. Read on for Sam's review and to hear how they ended up with a truly unique souvenir of their Mudgee getaway.

"We had a lovely time, and the weather and spring blossom really performed for us.

We went to the market on the first day, and the e-bikes were of interest to all, so we made the front page of the Mudgee Guardian, one of the last remaining country papers…very funny. No inside story, the line under the pic reads:  "Matt, Debbie and John Flynn, Sam and Hugh Spencer …they were fresh off trying their e-bikes for the first World Expedition Tour of Mudgee vineyards".

"I would also emphasise, that it is really important to book tastings, even though it makes it difficult to keep to a schedule.  This may have been a feature of Covid restrictions and in normal times, not so important.

The bikes were very good quality and easy to ride. Bike attendant Brett was more than helpful and was on time every time. The ride would be very “doable” on regular bikes.

We very much enjoyed a wine tasting at Lowe Vineyard which is in a wonderful location, then dinner at their restaurant the Zin House the following night. The maps were easy to follow, the accommodation was very good, clean and well supplied with cutlery, crockery, good linen and towels etc."

"I would add into the itinerary…if you choose not to ride for half a day, or the weather is inclement, then drive 30 min up the Ulan Road to a place called The Drip. Park and walk along a stream, past overhanging “dripping” rocks and beautiful bush, and small caves. Take a snack and enjoy the solitude. There are toilets and a map at the start of the walk, about an hour return."
