Australian Cycle Tours Adds its Support to calls for the Establishment of a Northern Rivers Rail Trail

 
Australian Cycle Tours General Manager, Kate Baker, said her company would promote a self-guided cycle tour along the route if the project proceeds.
 
“We are keen supporters of the proposal to build an off-road recreational trail for cyclists, runners, walkers and others along the disused Northern Rivers rail corridor,” Ms Baker said.
 
“The trail would provide a safe opportunity for recreation to residents and visitors in the region,” she said.
 
“There is a woeful lack of rail trails in NSW, compared with hundreds of kilometres in Victoria across multiple trails,” she said, “and the Northern Rivers Rail Trail would help address this imbalance.”
   
“The Victorian trails bring significant tourism dollars into the towns along the various route and there’s no reason that rail trails in NSW wouldn’t become equally attractive to cyclists,” she said.
 
“Internationally, New Zealand’s cycle trails attract thousands of visitors each year, bringing valuable tourism dollars into the country,” she said.  “It’s a case of appropriately investing in infrastructure to revitalise disused rail trails to convert them into usable trails.”
 
“We urge governments to do whatever they can to assist regional NSW to attract cycle tourism,” she said.
 
Australian Cycle Tours is the newest cycling brand of long established adventure travel company, World Expeditions and its self-guided cycling itineraries include bike hire, accommodation and luggage transfer, as well as the use of a dedicated app to help cyclists navigate their route.
